Tradition

Since its founding in 1947, the club has remained true to its mission of promoting sport and celebrating the culture and traditions of the Alentejo. Throughout the decades, it has been a cornerstone in upholding regional identity, playing an active role in the sporting and social development of the community.

We are a Portuguese club with a strong tradition in developing young talent, having nurtured some of the great figures of national and regional football. Based in the city of Elvas, in the district of Portalegre, at the heart of the Alentejo region, we take pride in being a sporting reference that combines history, passion, and a strong commitment to the development of both football and the local community.

Throughout its history, Clube Alentejano de Desportos “O Elvas” has experienced moments of glory as well as periods of greater adversity, marked by both financial and sporting challenges.

Amid victories and setbacks, the club has remained resilient, establishing itself as a symbol of perseverance and passion for football in the heart of the country. Every chapter of its journey has helped to strengthen the blue and gold identity, upheld by the unwavering support of its fans and the dedication of generations of players, leaders, and staff.

The club was founded on August 15, 1947, following the merger between “Sport Lisboa e Elvas” and “Sporting Clube Elvense,” two teams that respectively represented Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting Clube de Portugal in the city of Elvas. This historic union was primarily driven by the lack of interest shown by their so-called parent clubs.

In the 1940s, both SL Elvas and SC Elvense were facing serious financial difficulties. After repeated requests for support were denied by their parent clubs, the two local organizations decided to join forces and merge into a single club, with the goal of preserving and strengthening football in the region.

From that union, a new sporting identity was born—founded on the commitment to keep the beautiful game alive in the interior of the country, guided by ambition, resilience, and a deep sense of belonging to the Elvas community.

The club’s colors are blue and gold (yellow), and the players are nicknamed the Blue and Golden Knights, as are their supporters, most of whom are from Elvas.
